This is a piece I’ve been meaning to write all week but life happens and I’ve been a little busy! But I’m finally making time. Hope you enjoy.
“you said. if it’s meant to be. fate will bring us back together. for a second i wonder if you really are that naive. if you really believe fate works like that. as if it lives in the sky staring down on us. as if it has five fingers and spends its time placing us like pieces of chess. as if it is not the choices we make. who taught you that. tell me. who convinced you. you’ve been given a heart and a mind that isn’t yours to use. that your actions do not define what will become of you. i want to scream and shout it’s us you fool. we’re the only ones that can bring us back together. but instead i sit quietly. smiling softly through quivering lips thinking. isn’t it such a tragic thing when you can see it so clearly but the other person doesn’t.”

This is has been something I’ve been thinking about a lot recently… fate. “Everything happens for a reason”. “If it’s meant to be, it will be.” And I think that is complete and utter bullshit! Just like Rupi says in her poem, “that your actions do not define what will become of you.” You can’t just think “fate” is going to handle all your problems and fix everything. That things will all just fall into place the way they’re supposed to be. No! You have to work for what you want. You have to go after whatever it is you desire. You can’t wish for an A but study for a C. You can’t want a fit toned body but eat like shit and only workout twice a week. You can’t expect to win an award or get the job if you don’t put in the effort to earn it. And you may fail, but then you try again. You try and try again. You try until you get it. How can you even think of giving up after one time? Nobody ever became great by giving up after their first failure. I’ve seen a lot of tweets on twitter of things such as “Try harder or why bother” and “I’m constantly torn between “if it’s meant to be, it will be” and “if you want it, go and get it.” And it’s not even a question for me. If you want it, go and get it. Always. Do the work, put in the effort, get up and go after whatever it is you want. If you’re not busy building your dreams, someone else will hire you to build theirs. So don’t be naive. Don’t take anybody shit, don’t let people treat you poorly or unfair, but don’t sit around and wait for fate. Because fate may never happen, it may never come.
