HAPPINESS.

Let me just start off by saying how much I freaking love all of Em Carey’s posts. I found her Instagram page a while back. I was browsing the popular page one day and came across one of her pictures. I honestly don’t remember what the picture was but I do know that is was a picture regarding her skydiving incident which has left her a “walking paraplegic”. I was immediately intrigued because I’m just interested in stories like that and because my boyfriend at the time and I had this joke about being paraplegic. Anyway, I quickly hit the follow button and have been thankful I have ever since. If you’re looking for some daily positivity, happiness, or motivation I HIGHLY recommend following Emma. If you’re as obsessed with sunrises and sunsets as I am I HIGHLY recommend following Emma. If you want to be greeted “GOOOOD MORNINGGGG” everyday through SnapChat or Instagram story then I HIGHLY recommend following Emma. The moral of the story is that I HIGHLY recommend following Emma!

I wake up smiling, high on life, and bursting at the seams with happiness almost every single morning. And multiple times a week when I actively catch myself experiencing these feelings I become flooded with joy and gratitude because I think back to a few years ago, back in highschool, when I NEVER experienced this. I used to almost always wake up complaining and grouchy and to look at how far I’ve come is so inspiring to myself. For as long as I can remember I’ve always thought being outside on a warm sunny day and physically feeling the warmth from the sun shinning onto your shoulders was the best feeling in the world. Today, I think waking up genuinely happy for no particular reason whatsoever is by far the best feeling. I am simply happy to be alive. I am happy to be able to get out of bed and walk to the bathroom effortlessly. I am happy to be able to look in the mirror and smile at my crazy bed head! I am happy to throw open my curtains and let the light shine into my space. I am happy to be able to eat breakfast and go for a run. I am happy to throw on some jams and have a dance party all alone. If you woke up, that’s a reason to celebrate!

Emma starts her post by asking if you think it’s possible to have a good day every single day. I bet if I did a survey majority of people would probably say no! A few months ago a friend of mine tweeted “There is no such thing as a bad day. If you have a few bad hours, shake it off, fix your mentality, and get after it again.” And that resonates with me so deeply. I truly believe every day is a good day. There is always something to be thankful for. Happiness is not situational. *say it again for the people in the back* HAPPINESS IS NOT SITUATIONAL. I read those words over and over again and just thought to myself “HELL YES GIRL YOU ARE SO RIGHT”. Since I’ve embarked on my happiness journey I’ve always believed “Your mentality is your reality” but I don’t know… something about that phrase, “happiness is not situational” just hits home with me and I love it. You can not always control your surroundings but you have every ability to control how they affect you. You have the ability to wake up every damn day and decided it’s going to be a good day before your feet even hit the floor. How amazing is that?! You literally get to create, shape, and form your life into whatever you want it to be.

Gratitude. Like Emma, I’ve got buckets full of gratitude. Anybody who knows me knows how within the past few months I’ve sort of adopted the phrase “gratitude is the attitude” as my own personal motto. I even got it tattooed on my left arm this month. I can not preach enough how important it is to be grateful. And that the more grateful you are, the more you have to be grateful for. What to start your day off on the right foot? Then start each day with a grateful heart.

I don’t know what your religion is or what your beliefs are but if you’ve never heard of the Law of Attraction and are interested in it or how it works (and I believe whole heartedly that it does) then you should look into it. There’s even a documentary on Netflix about it called “The Secret”. It’s honestly what changed my life and kick started my happiness journey 3 years ago. I believe manifestation is a real thing and your mind is SO powerful, so use it.

At the end of the day happiness is a choice. And if you can choose whether you have a bad day or a good day, why would “bad” even be an option?! If you get to choose how you feel, why would you pick sadness over happiness?! Once you realize that and actively start practice being happy I promise, your life will start to feel more full almost instantly.
