Monday July 31st, 2017.
I’m on 12 hr shifts this month and this week is my “long week” meaning I work Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Andrew had Monday off.
I was texting A while I was at work and he was taking foreverrrr to reply! Like hello, you’re off today.. what’re you even doing?! I didn’t really think too much of it, but I did notice it. Then, towards the backend of my shift I kept asking A what he had done all day and he kept avoiding the question! I asked him like 4 times and finally I was like, “HEY, WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY?!” and he finally told me! And he added, “and a spechial surprise that I can’t tell you!” Typically, any time Andrew tells me he has a surprise for me I beg and beg and beg for him to tell me or for a hint or something! And eventually he just gets really irritated with me, and tells me, therefore ruining the surprise. This time I decided not to press and let it actually be a surprise.
I got home and we had plans to go buy our first pet! So we headed to Petsmart and when we got there we found out we couldn’t go home with our intended pet (fishes!). Because, apparently we have to set up the tank first and allow the water to regulate. (I personally had no idea that you had to do that, I would’ve just put that bad boy straight into a tank of facet water and then he probably would’ve died.) So as bummed as we were about not being able to take a fish home, we’re glad we’re not going to kill our first pet right off the bat.
We got home from the store and A jumped into the shower while I cooked up some rice in our rice cooker to eat for the next few days. As I waited for the shower to open I made myself comfortable on the couch and did some writing. Andrew came out of the shower and locked himself in the bedroom (that was a weird move) but again, I didn’t think much of it as my focus was on my writing not whatever he was doing.
Eventually he comes out of the bedroom with the camera and a t-shirt in hand. “Put on this blindfold!” he said, handing me the t-shirt. I folded and wrapped the shirt around my eyes and Andrew guided me into the bedroom. He turned me around and told me to keep my eyes closed…. then he said, “okay, you can take the blindfold off” and when I did this is what I saw:
Andrew freakin made me a personalized neon sign and it is awesome! Like seriously, how FREAKIN cool is that?! I just stood there in disbelief. When did he have time to make this without me knowing? How did he do it? How did he come up with the idea in the first place?! Like WOW! It’s so unique, creative, and special and I absolutely love it. I absolutely freakin love it.
We both spent a good 5 minutes just standing there staring at it because I mean, come on its pretty damn cool. I kept hugging A and thanking him for this beautiful gift. He looked at me and said, “Will you be my girlfriend?” I couldn’t help but laugh and say YES!
Now there’s a back story to that question. Anybody who knows me or anybody who has been reading my blog for a while knows Andrew and I started dating back in 2015. And they also know we broke up for a few months at the end of last year flowing into this year. When Andrew and I started talking about getting back together I told him, “If we do end up getting back together you have to actually ask me to be your girlfriend this time.” Because, back in 2015 Andrew never asked me out! He basically just assumed I was his girlfriend! I remember I was working the night shift at the hospital and he texted me asking if I was going to come over once I got off. I responded something along the lines of, “I can come over but I don’t want to over stay my welcome” and he said, “over stay your welcome? 1- I just invited you and 2- you’re my gf”. I joke about it now but obviously then I didn’t have a problem with it because we stayed dating for over a year!
Anyway, he just made the whole moment very special and I appreciate that so much. The thought and effort he put into making my neon sign is appreciated even more. So thank you A. I’m already excited to go home and look at it!
“My heart beats for you.. get it?!”

Thank you so much A, I love everything you did to make the evening and the moment memorable. This year has been INSANE for us and I’m so excited for where we’re at now and what the rest of the year has in store for us. Te Amo!
